  The SHELL Project was one of two projects funded by the UK Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) as part of the initial phase of the Managed Learning Environments for Lifelong Learning programme. 

The key aim of this programme was to support the mobility of learners via integrated information systems via the concept of a single point of access to a range of integrated learner resources. 

The SHELL project ran from 2002 to April 2005, and was led by the University of Plymouth, in partnership with (initially) four local further education (FE) colleges.
